Research on Quenching and Tempering Microstructural Properties of the New Cr-Mo-V Hot Work Die Steel
摘要
5CrNiMoVNb steel is a typical precipitation-hardened Cr-Mo-V hot work die steel. To enhance its overall mechanical properties, the effects of quenching and tempering processes on its microstructure were investigated through an integrated approach combining thermodynamic calculations and experimental methods. The results demonstrate that the morphology and distribution of the primary carbide strengthening phases, M23C6 and MC, which remain stable below 800 °C, can be effectively controlled by optimizing these heat treatment parameters. After being quenched at 940 °C and tempered at 600 °C for 2 hours, the steel achieves an optimal combination of hardness and toughness. This optimally treated sample, characterized by a refined tempered microstructure and non-coarsened, granular carbides, exhibits a 56% improvement in ductility without a significant reduction in tensile strength.
