<p>Patients are increasingly using incontinence materials. The current materials are designed for single use and made from fossil and forestry resources. This disposable material is not or hardly suitable for recycling, which means that most of it ends up in incinerators. As a&#xa0;result, both the production and disposal of incontinence materials have a&#xa0;negative impact on the climate. To achieve the climate goals, which aim for a&#xa0;95% reduction in CO<sub>2</sub> emissions by 2050, we must commit to making more sustainable choices regarding incontinence materials. In this article, we outline possibilities for the sustainable prescribing and use of incontinence materials and explain how the production and disposal of these materials impact the climate.</p>

Patients are increasingly using incontinence materials. The current materials are designed for single use and made from fossil and forestry resources. This disposable material is not or hardly suitable for recycling, which means that most of it ends up in incinerators. As a result, both the production and disposal of incontinence materials have a negative impact on the climate. To achieve the climate goals, which aim for a 95% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050, we must commit to making more sustainable choices regarding incontinence materials. In this article, we outline possibilities for the sustainable prescribing and use of incontinence materials and explain how the production and disposal of these materials impact the climate.
