Waterdampbehandeling bij benigne prostaathyperplasie

This study presents the first results of de water vapor therapy for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in the Netherlands. All patients who underwent the procedure from May 2021 till January 2024 in the Albert Schweitzer hospital and from September 2022 in the Andros Mens Health Clinics, were included. The patients were followed for a year and monitored for their peak flow (Qmax), postvoiding residual volume, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF‑5 or 15). The greatest effect of treatment is seen after three months and persists throughout the whole follow-up. The Qmax increases by 94.27% in one year, the residual volume decreases by 60.64% and IPSS by 61.52%. The IIEF-5 increases by 11.07% and IIEF-15 by 10.48%. It is also an effective treatment for patients with catheter-dependent urinary retention, with 100% catheter clearance after an average of 36.26 days (± 25.68).
