Government efficiency, natural resources management and economic performance: China’s mineral resources and government efficiency perspective
摘要
Globally, most of the resource-rich regions faces economic complications and lower growth rate compared to resource-poor regions. In order to improve the overall economic performance of the country, natural resources management, effective government policies, and technological innovation could be the potential tools to work on. This research tends to explore the importance of natural resources, government efficiency, research and development expenditure, and technological innovation in the economic performance of China. Covering the extended dataset from 1990 to 2022, diagnostic tests assert the mixed integration order of the data—leading to opt the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bound testing approach. The empirical results unveil the validity of resource curse in China in the short run. However, mineral resources become blessings for the economy in the long-run, particularly in the presence of digital government efficiency. On the other hand, research and development investment and technological development significantly improve the region’s economic performance. Besides, government efficiency becomes efficient with the interaction of technological innovation—leading higher economic performance. Following the outcomes, this research suggests policies for immediate and efficient management of natural resources, improvement in the research and development investment, and strengthening institutions and governance.
