Electron Spin Resonance Dating of Shells—A Systematic Literature Review

In this paper, a literature review using a systematic search aims to demonstrate how the ESR dating method has been applied to shells. A systematic search on Web of Science, PubMed, and SciELO databases was carried out using the keywords “Electron Spin Resonance Dating” OR “Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Dating” OR “ESR Dating” OR “EPR Dating” AND shell, resulting in 88 articles. After application of exclusion criteria, 28 articles were selected to be analyzed in relation to the experimental procedures adopted to obtain the ages. The ages obtained by ESR dating of shells have contributed to several areas giving support to geomorphological, geological, and archaeological studies.
