Background <p>Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with a high incidence and serious harm to human health in China. Early diagnosis of diabetes is still based on a fasting plasma glucose (FPG) threshold set by the World Health Organization (WHO) in China due to the lack of local data.</p> Objective <p>We aimed to explore the optimal cut-off value of FPG in the diagnosis of diabetes in Chinese.</p> Methods <p>We retrospectively analyzed the data of 12,254 patients admitted to our hospital from January 2008 to December 2023 who underwent oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Fasting plasma glucose and 2-h postprandial blood glucose were obtained. They were grouped according to whether or not they were diagnosed with diabetes. Receiver operating curve (ROC) was drawn for the relationship between DM and FPG, and the optimal cut-off value of FPG for diagnosing DM was obtained.</p> Results <p>The optimal FPG cut-off value for diagnosing DM was 6.675&#xa0;mmol/L, the maximum area under the curve (AUC) was 0.922, and the predicted sensitivity and specificity of DM were 81.70% and 87.60%, respectively.</p> Conclusion <p>The adoption of FPG 6.675&#xa0;mmol/L as the new upper limit is more conducive to the early diagnosis and treatment of diabetes.</p>

Background

Objective
