<p>The increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its associated complications pose significant challenges to global healthcare systems. There is growing recognition of the interrelationship between T2DM and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a common chronic respiratory disorder. This review explores the multifaceted interplay between T2DM and OSA, emphasizing their collective impact on glycemic control. T2DM, especially with upper airway changes and obesity, contributes to the development and severity of OSA. Conversely, OSA, characterized by sleep-induced upper airway collapse, adversely affects glucose metabolism and insulin resistance, exacerbating T2DM, forming a vicious cycle where each condition worsens the other. Despite its high prevalence in patients with T2DM, OSA often remains underdiagnosed, necessitating improved early-stage assessment strategies. Existing screening questionnaires, though valuable, exhibit limitations in their applicability to T2DM patients. To address this gap, an expert group introduced a concise set of six questions specifically tailored to simplify and enhance the screening process for OSA in individuals with T2DM. Early recognition and intervention for OSA has the potential to improve glycemic control in T2DM patients, underscoring the importance of comprehensive healthcare strategies in managing this complex interrelationship.</p>
