Analysis of sugarcane bagasse from Kenana and White Nile companies in Sudan

Energy is the foundation of the economy. Today, the demand for affordable and clean energy is a top priority for countries seeking development while preserving their environment. This demand is rising because of population growth and industrial expansion, with fossil fuels currently meeting most energy needs. However, fossil fuel use is causing significant environmental problems. In Sudan, sugarcane bagasse is widely cultivated, with its residue commonly used for heat production. This research explores the slow pyrolysis of sugarcane bagasse, a chemical process applied to samples from Kenana and White Nile. The study discusses the slow pyrolysis process and its outcomes. Laboratory analysis revealed that the bio-oil produced has a high calorific value, making it a viable, environmentally friendly alternative for transportation and industrial use. Chemical analysis showed that the bio-oil yield from Kenana bagasse is 0.060, higher than the 0.046 yield from White Nile bagasse. Gas analysis indicated differences in NOX, CO, CO2, and HC emissions between the two samples, attributed to their varying compositions and pyrolysis characteristics. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that both Kenana and White Nile bagasse can serve as alternative fuels to fossil fuels.
