Production and characterization of Azadirachta indica oil-based iron oxide nanoparticles with antibacterial potential

In the current study, the production and characterization of iron oxide nanoparticles using Azadirachtolides indica seed oil by green chemistry approach and analyzed its antibacterial activity. This study primarily aims to use A. indica seed oil to formulate iron oxide nanoparticles. It is essential in the medicinal field as a nano-biodegradable drug delivery material. FT-IR, XRD, FESEM, EDX, HRTEM, TGA, and Zeta potential analysis characterized the green synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles. The produced nanoparticles were spherical with average dimensions ranging from 21 to 29 nm and crystalline. The EDX analysis showed that the nanoparticles have 71.5% iron and 25.1% oxide groups. In antibacterial studies, the maximum zone of inhibition was found in S. aureus (28 ± 1 mm) for 50 mgC/ml concentration of iron oxide nanoparticles, and the lowest zone of inhibition was observed in E. coli (14 ± 1 mm) at a concentration of 25 μg/ml iron oxide nanoparticles. These green synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles have virtuous antibacterial activity and can be utilized in various applications.
