UAV-Based Aerial Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Methods for Landslide Monitoring: A Review

A significant natural hazard, landslides can affect the environment, the economy, structures, and even human life. Catastrophic landslides have been difficult to forecast and prevent using traditional monitoring techniques. However, improvements in remote sensing technology have made it possible to identify and monitor ground deformations with greater accuracy and in real time. Through a variety of methods, including geotechnical, geodetic, satellite remote sensing, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), landslides events can be viewed globally thanks to satellite remote sensing. Each approach has benefits and drawbacks of its own. In this study, we aim to review, compare, and highlight the benefits and drawbacks of each technology used for landslide monitoring and emphasize the potential advantages of UAVs in delivering high-resolution data in real time. Understanding these strategies can improve our ability to predict, prevent, and manage landslide disasters, ultimately reducing the risk of property damage and loss of life. By the end of this review, we tried to suggest hybrid methods which complement each other’s limitations in landslides monitoring.
