<p>Paraffin wax deposition remains a significant challenge when transporting crude oil in pipelines. Therefore, this comprehensive review aims to discuss the most critical factors affecting the wax deposition rate, including temperature, pressure, crude oil properties, flow type, surface roughness, and time. A summary and thorough discussion of 19 non-thermal methods, currently in application or under study, were critically reviewed. The paper primarily focused on defining the methods, presenting experimental results, and identifying the main advantages and disadvantages. The possibility of combining each technique with the others to improve wax removal efficiency is also thoroughly assessed. It was observed that no single technique is suitable for all types of crude oil under different conditions; however, each method has its own pros and cons. The idea of adopting non-thermal plasma as a green method was also raised, as it has a future in contributing to ensuring the flow of crude oil. It is expected to be used only as an adjuvant or catalyst and is unlikely to be used as a holistic method. To highlight a few possible combined methods, non-thermal plasma can be used with pigging to treat the internal pipeline surface during cleaning. Another approach involves using an anti-wax coating with the oscillating baffled tube, since they share the same operating principles. Incorporating ultrasonics improves chemical reactions. A new method for continuously agitating free-floating solid particles in crude oil during pumping can also be considered. This review may be of great value to researchers in this field, as the continuation of developing systems and methods is an essential factor for improving the flow assurance of heavy crude oil in pipelines.</p>
