A Review of Chemoresistive Hydrogen Gas Sensors Based on Low-Dimensional Materials

Low-dimensional materials have shown great potential for gas sensing because of their unique chemical and physical properties, such as high electron mobility and high surface-to-volume ratios. Mostly, low-dimensional materials possess high electron mobility; however, some suffer from limited carrier mobility. These materials can remarkably enhance the response of chemoresistive gas sensors. Humans cannot detect colorless and odorless H2 gas. Thus, an ultrasensitive sensor is desirable for detecting H2 leakage during production, usage, and storage. The purpose of this review is to provide the most recent experimental advancements in the use of various low-dimensional materials for H2 gas sensing. This paper reviews chemoresistive H2 gas sensors that employ low-dimensional materials for sensing to reveal the challenges and opportunities for H2 gas detection. In addition, several computational studies on the adsorption of H2 molecules on low-dimensional materials have been conducted.
