Simulation of Reinforced Recycled Aggregate Concrete Frames Subjected to Seismic Loading

Construction and demolition waste often ends up in landfills, straining capacity and impacting the environment. Recent research has primarily focused on exploring recycled aggregates in concrete and analysing their mechanical properties, along with studying how structural elements made from recycled aggregate concrete perform under static loads. However, there is a notable gap in investigating how utilizing construction waste affects the behaviour of structural elements and frames made with recycled aggregates under seismic loading conditions. Therefore, in this investigation detailed experimental and numerical studies have been conducted to study the behaviour of the reinforced concrete frames made with recycled aggregates under seismic loading. Based on the detailed investigations conducted herein, it was concluded that the reinforced concrete structural frames made with RAC can withstand seismic forces and show similar behaviour as exhibited by the identical natural aggregate concrete frames.
