<p>The diversity and composition of bat assemblages vary across time and space, with peak richness occurring in the tropics. While bat assemblages have been extensively studied, those in many regions remain undescribed or undersampled. Here, we contribute to the understanding of Neotropical bat assemblages by characterizing an assemblage from a premontane forest in Colombia’s Magdalena River basin, sampled over a ten-year period, and comparing it to seven other Neotropical assemblages. The Magdalena assemblage exhibited high richness (58 species), second only to the Amazon assemblage. Extrapolated richness suggests it is comparable to the assemblages from Bolivia and Costa Rica. Observed richness fluctuated over time, driven by capture rates, whereas diversity metrics incorporating species abundance and evenness remained relatively stable and modest. A few species dominated, with most showing medium to low abundances. Frugivores were the most abundant group, but insectivores surpassed frugivores in species richness in some assemblages, including Magdalena. The high diversity in the study area is likely driven by landscape heterogeneity and favorable year-round weather. These findings emphasize the importance of preserving forest cover alongside a mosaic of land uses, such as crops, gardens, and wood-pastures, for effective long-term conservation. Furthermore, this study highlights the value of long-term monitoring for detecting temporal patterns in bat assemblages and provides a baseline for future research on Neotropical bat diversity.</p>
