Reply to Bozenhard: Why Creators Cannot Win

Here I defend my argument that proprietors possess the right to restrict AI training from Bozenhard’s objection that it fails to properly secure the rights of creators. Building on material from my original article, I argue that this task is impossible, because even if creators did initially possess the right to restrict the use of their work for AI training, it would likely be transferred to the proprietors of content-hosting sites anyway. It makes no practical difference, then, whether creators or proprietors initially possess this right. I then present a few questions for Bozenhard about his notion of “inspirational responsibility.”
