<p>India is experiencing frequent outbreaks of seasonal influenza viruses, similar to the ongoing influenza type B in many states. Influenza viruses are linked to significant morbidity and mortality, particularly among children under 5&#xa0;years of age. Despite the considerable burden of influenza and widespread surveillance throughout India, data on the true national burden is, at best, inconsistent. The year-round presence of influenza activity and two distinct peaks present significant challenges to India’s single-dose annual influenza vaccination. This situation is further complicated by frequent vaccine updates due to ongoing ‘antigenic drifts’ in circulating influenza viruses and the short durability of most flu vaccines. This perspective briefly explores the strategies that can be implemented to maximize the benefits of the available vaccines.</p>
