The effect of pesticides on the body of animals in the experiment

An urgent problem is the comprehensive contamination of the environment with pesticides. They enter the organism from polluted sources in different combinations. The harm manifests itself in neurodegenerative disorders and disturbance of biochemical homeostasis.
ObjectivesThe purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of tobacco dust, sumi-alpha, and lontrym on the motor and behavioural activity of laboratory animals (mice, rabbits, white rats) over a period of 4 months.
MethodsIn the course of the study, the following methods were used to examine reflexes and physiological state: the Ashner test, swimming test, load lifting test, “open field” test, and voltmeter measurement of the summation-threshold index.
ResultsAll pesticides increased the motor activity of rats, which persisted even after the convalescence period (for 30 days). The combined action of esfenvalerate and clopyralid resulted in a decrease in activity potential, which returned to normal after a month. The opposite effect was observed in mice with separate introductions: the summation-threshold index decreased, endurance and muscle strength were lost, and behaviour slowed down. Tobacco dust had the strongest effect on rats and sumi-alpha had the most significant impact on mice. Due to the combination of tobacco with esfenvalerate, the duration of grooming increased in mice, but overall activity slowed down. A similar effect was shown by clopyralid with tobacco, but rat reflexes were inhibited by only 9%.
ConclusionWith the combined introduction of three substances in rabbits, a slowing of the heart rate was recorded; in mice, emotional tension increased, and orienting-investigative reflexes were suppressed; in white rats, stimulation was observed during the intoxication period, but the indicators of the summation-threshold index, strength, and endurance partially decreased after recovery.
