Abstract

This study investigates the synthesis and performance of eco-friendly water-based emulsion adhesives designed for interior and exterior building materials, with a focus on achieving excellent weather and heat resistance. The objective is to develop a sustainable alternative to conventional solvent-based acrylic and rubber-based adhesives by optimizing water-based formulations that meet or exceed the required adhesion properties such as durability, thermal stability, and resistance to environmental factors. Adhesives used in surface protection tapes across various industries demand multifunctional performance. In particular, protection tapes for building materials must withstand prolonged outdoor exposure, necessitating superior resistance to contamination, heat, moisture, and weather, while also offering strong adhesion to diverse substrates and clean removability without residue. In this work, high-performance adhesive formulations were developed by varying the types and ratios of acrylic monomers and assessing their compatibility. The optimized water-based emulsion adhesive demonstrated excellent adhesion and environmental resistance, indicating strong potential for application in protective tapes for building materials. Future industry-scale evaluations will further assess its viability as a sustainable replacement for traditional solvent-based adhesives.
