Introduction <p>Menstrual Health Management is defined as menstruating women using clean sanitary material to collect menstrual blood, which can be changed when necessary, having facilities to dispose used sanitary materials. Cloths, tampons, pads are some commonly used materials. Menstrual cup can be an ideal alternative as they are eco-friendly, cost effective, safe and durable. Despite the advantages, its usage is found to be minimal. Hence we conducted this study to assess the awareness, acceptability and efficacy of these silicone cups.</p> Methodology <p>It was a prospective Longitudinal Interventional study conducted in Ramaiah institutional campus and patients attending OPD’s at Ramaiah Hospitals, Bengaluru. Women were asked to fill a questionnaire and their knowledge about the menstrual cups were assessed. Awareness was given with a menstrual cup. A menstrual cup was provided free of cost who accepted to use and were followed for 3 cycles. Their knowledge, acceptability and efficacy towards menstrual cup were evaluated.</p> Results <p>48% of our participants had good knowledge about the menstrual cup. During the first cycle 51.3% had problems. The problems faced during 1st cycle reduced after counselling in the 2nd cycle. In 2nd cycle 10.9% faced problems. Counselling was done based on the problems faced. Out of which 3.2% did not want to continue the cup due to the anxiety. 88% entered the third cycle. 2.2% faced problems and discontinued the study as feared discomfort, leak and abdominal pain. At the end of the study 86% were ready to continue menstrual cup.</p> Conclusion <p>Counselling and creating awareness about the technique of using menstrual cups in targeted population, made them more efficient with an additional benefit of decreasing sanitary landfills.</p>
