<p>Fungal diseases such as Chytridiomycosis cause widespread decline of amphibians globally. While most of the previous research has been primarily focused on pathogenic fungi, the native fungi or mycobiome of amphibian skin is widely understudied. But emerging evidence suggests that diverse and unique fungal communities inhabit amphibian skin and these symbiotic communities could play crucial roles in defending against pathogenic invaders. However the lack of research on host-fungal interactions and the absence of improved taxonomic resolution of fungal species poses significant knowledge gaps. The review focuses on both pathogenic and potentially beneficial interactions between amphibians and fungi, highlighting the multifaceted role of fungi in amphibian systems and the significance of native fungi in amphibian immunity across life stages. We further emphasize the importance of future research on the amphibian mycobiome to enhance our understanding of amphibian-fungal interactions which could be crucial in developing effective strategies for mitigating the impact of fungal diseases on amphibians. </p>
