A bibliometric analysis of social media use for personal learning outcomes using biblioshiny & VOSviewer

The Widespread use of social media has significantly influenced personal and education development, making it important area of research to explore. This study conducts bibliometric analysis to conceptualize existing research on social media’s role in achieving learning outcomes. By examining the existing literature, it is identified that how social media platforms contribute to personal, collaborative and self-directed learning within the formal and informal educational contexts. Scopus database is one of the largest and prominent sources of existing authenticated & quality literature from where we identified key studies on the domain of the study. Bibliometric analysis tools like Biblioshiny & VOSViewer applied to analyse citation networks, co-authorship patters and thematic clusters. It helps in identifying most influential authors, publications and latest research trends in the field of study. Reviewing and contextualizing the past research in a very important topic of study is a way to define the future possibilities in research on the topic. Bibliometric analysis is one such way to contextualize and summarize the research into any topic. In this paper, we examine the use of social media (a growing research topic from the Information Science perspective) to achieve the targeted learning outcomes (an important topic for education, personal development and self-development researchers) and conceptualize the key dimensions examined in previous research. The discussion and conclusion will help the readers to plan future research in these domains. The study uses the SCOPUS database to identify the past research and uses Biblioshiny and VOSViewer to analyze the output provided from the key words used in Scopus database.
