Exploring public perception, awareness, and satisfaction with AI applications in Karnataka, India: the role of individual characteristics and media influence

The study delves into the exciting realm of human-AI collaboration. In an era characterized by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, this research explores the symbiotic relationship between AI technology and the human intellect. This study aims to explore the correlation between individuals’ perception and awareness of the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into their daily lives among the people in Karnataka, a state of India. The investigation involves an examination of how individual characteristics may influence a person’s perception and awareness of AI in the context of news media. Additionally, the study explores whether an individual’s perception and awareness of AI in their daily life impact their understanding of AI’s operationalization. The investigation seeks to establish correlations between the factors mentioned and aims to contribute valuable insights into the intricate relationship between people’s daily encounters with AI and their perceptions, awareness, usage and satisfaction realities of AI. Findings indicated that age significantly affects comfort with AI, assistance provided by AI-powered chatbots perceptions of AI in news reporting, participation in AI-related conversations, interaction with AI on social media and ethical concerns regarding AI applications. The study underscores the nuanced landscape of AI attitudes and interactions, revealing that while there is substantial awareness and engagement with AI technologies, significant variations exist across different demographic groups and usage contexts. The results provide valuable insights for designing AI systems that align with user expectations and addressing ethical concerns across age groups.
