Influence of fibre ratio and chemical treatment on the properties of hybrid epoxy composites reinforced with areca and banana fibre
摘要
Natural fibres are becoming more and more popular these days as an alternative to synthetic plastic materials among consumers worldwide. The use of composite materials, which include two or more fibres, is now popular as a way to improve mechanical strength and endurance. This study was focused on the characterize the hybridisation of banana and areca fibres in epoxy matrix. In this research the effect of the NaOH treatment on the fibres on Mechanical properties were investigated. Hand layup technique employing epoxy resin was used for developing the hybrid polymer composites. Banana and areca fibre were reinforced in different weight percentages in epoxy resin. Tensile strength, flexural strength, density, void content, thickness swelling, water absorption, and other aspects of dimension stability are studied during testing of experiments. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs of a tensile fractured specimen were used to examine its morphological characteristics. Based on the results of the experiment, the composites constructed with a hybrid composite of banana (20 wt%) and areca (10 wt%) had the least voids. When compared to other samples, hybrid composites containing 20% areca fibre and 20% banana fibre had better tensile and flexural strengths, respectively.
