Green adhesives for wood panel products: a review
摘要
Wood adhesives are manufactured using mostly formaldehyde because of its high reactivity and excellent adhesive performance. Due to the carcinogenic feature of formaldehyde, there is a need to implement alternative adhesives to replace these formaldehyde-based adhesives in the wood-based industry. Coherently, the increase in price and nonrenewability of petrochemical based raw materials has created an additional pressure in the search for bio-material based adhesive manufacture. Thus, have encouraged significant research and developments in use of sustainable raw materials for the manufacture of biobased wood adhesives. This paper reviews the wood adhesives developed using bio-based materials such as tannins, lignin, chitosan, starch, cellulose and hemicellulose with nontoxic cross linkers.
