<p>Several vertical infill structures, each comprising either limestone or chert, occur within the Brigantian Cefn Mawr Limestone and Pendleian Pentre Chert formations of the Mississippian in the Halkyn Mountain area, North Wales. The Pentre Chert is probably at least partly a replacement of carbonate sediments. Only one of these infill structures has been described before and interpreted as a karstic feature but the possibility of karstification being instrumental in forming any of the infill structures is rejected. All are interpreted as neptunian dykes formed at different times when sea bed crevasses were exposed at platform edge and slope settings which were undergoing syndepositional mass collapse during the Brigantian and Pendleian (Viséan and Serpukhovian). Three distinctly different types of dyke infill were observed.</p>
