Construction, Ecological Deconstruction and Mechanism of the Knowledge Innovation Ecosystem: A Case Study of Huawei’s “0-N” Continuous Value Creation

How can cutting-edge technologies achieve the “0–1” breakthrough from nothing? How can they move out of the laboratory and smoothly transition to “1-N” applications? The knowledge innovation ecosystem (KIE) plays a pivotal role in realizing continuous, holistic value creation across the 0-N spectrum. This paper constructs a fundamental structural model of the KIE, comprising the “innovation ecological environment -innovation producer- innovation consumer-innovation decomposer,”and elucidates its operational mechanisms, thereby opening the “black box” of the KIE. Selecting Huawei as a paradigmatic case, this study examines the formation process of Huawei’s KIE and clarifies its basic structure and mechanisms. Building on the functional mechanism model of the KIE and the characteristics of Huawei’s ecosystem, a performance evaluation index system under the KIE framework is constructed. The TOPSIS method is employed to evaluate and analyze Huawei’s performance over the past five years. The findings offer significant value and insights for enterprises seeking to better integrate into and leverage KIES for strategic development.
