Monitoring, Organisational Culture and Growth of Technology Start-Ups in Developing Economies

The study sought to examine the role of organisational culture in the relationship between monitoring practices and growth of tech start-ups in some selected African countries. Specifically, the study assessed the effect of peer and predictive monitoring on the growth of tech start-ups, examined the role of organisational culture in the relationship between monitoring practices and the growth of tech start-ups. The sample size was 254 owner- managers of tech start-ups in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analysed using the partial least square structural equation modelling. The study found that peer and predictive process monitoring practices had a positive and significant effect on the growth of tech start-ups. The study also found that organisational culture plays a significant role in the relationship between predictive process monitoring and the growth of tech start-ups in Africa. Tech start-ups in Africa should foster a data-driven, learning-oriented culture to effectively leverage predictive process monitoring for sustainable growth.
