Information Quality and Corporate Digital Innovation: Evidence from China
摘要
This paper applies the principal-agent theory to examine the impact of information quality on corporate digital innovation. It conducts both theoretical analyses and empirical tests to determine whether earning information quality can enhance corporate digital innovation. Additionally, the paper investigates the role mechanism of earning information quality in promoting corporate digital innovation by examining its effects on financing constraints, information asymmetry, and investment efficiency. The empirical study utilized a sample of Chinese A-share listed companies spanning from 2011 to 2021. It discovered that the quality of earning information within firms significantly enhances their digital innovation. This effect is mediated by financing constraints, information asymmetry, and investment efficiency. Furthermore, the impact of earning information quality on digital innovation is particularly noticeable in non-state-owned firms, non-high-tech firms, and firms with CEOs lacking information technology backgrounds. The research in this paper presents evidence of how high-quality earning information facilitates corporate digital innovation and explains the mechanism through which it exerts its influence. It also provides a theoretical foundation and empirical evidence for leveraging the quality of corporate information to promote the high-quality development of corporate digital innovation.
