Leveraging Green Technological Innovation for Corporate Value Creation: the Mediating Role of Environmental Performance in the Japanese Manufacturing Sector

Environmental issues have become a pervasive global concern, affecting economic, social, and political spheres worldwide. Green technological innovation is increasingly recognized as a crucial strategy for achieving sustainable development and enhancing corporate value. This study investigates the relationship between green technology innovation and corporate value, with a particular focus on the mediating role of environmental performance. Utilizing data from manufacturing companies listed on the Japanese stock exchange from 2013 to 2023, the research integrates stakeholder theory, signaling theory, and the theory of green sustainable development to explore this relationship. The study employs panel corrected standard errors (PCSE) and the dynamic common correlated effects (DCCE) estimation techniques, addressing potential endogeneity through instrumental variables, including two-stage least squares (2SLS) and lagged effect estimation. The empirical findings reveal a significant positive relationship between green technological innovation and corporate value, with environmental performance acting as a positive mediator in this nexus. The study highlights the importance of integrating green technological innovations to drive corporate value and underscores the critical role of environmental performance in enhancing this relationship. This research provides both theoretical and practical insights into fostering environmental performance and corporate value, offering guidance for advancing corporate green transformation and promoting sustainable development.
