<p>This study examines the role of governance quality in shaping the impact of globalization on environmental degradation in BRICS countries from 1996 to 2020. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), we find that globalization influences CO<sub>2</sub> emissions indirectly through government effectiveness. Strong governance mitigates globalization’s negative environmental effects by enhancing regulatory capacity. Additionally, corruption control moderates this relationship, ensuring stricter enforcement of environmental policies. These findings highlight the need for BRICS nations to adopt innovative governance strategies to balance economic globalization with environmental sustainability in the knowledge economy.</p>
