<p>The objective of this study is to investigate the fascinating area of the metaverse and its impact on freelancers’ performance, with a particular focus on work flexibility. Furthermore, the research seeks to evaluate how work flexibility mediates the relationship between metaverse knowledge and freelancers’ performance. The study also explores the moderating effect of career adaptability within this complex framework. Data were collected from Pakistan, including various freelancing websites. Utilizing a convenience sampling method, data were collected from 312 participants. The results supports the hypothesized relationships, indicating that higher levels of metaverse knowledge correlate with greater enjoyment of flexible work schedules in the gig economy. Work flexibility acts as a significant mediator, enabling freelancers to more readily engage with freelancing opportunities in the metaverse. Additionally, the findings confirm the positive moderating effect of career adaptability on the relationships between metaverse knowledge, work flexibility, and performance. By investigating the unique contributions of the metaverse in the gig economy, this study offers important theoretical and practical implications for researchers and practitioners interested in improving freelancers’ performance in this dynamic digital landscape.</p>
