Occupational Health and Safety Practices to Enhance Safety Behavior in Ghana’s Mining Sector: The Moderating Effect of Transformational Leadership
摘要
Recently, safety behavior has become an issue of concern in managing workplace accidents and injuries. Its relevance has gained much attention in both academics and industry. This research examines the influence of occupational health and safety practices (OHSP) on safety behavior within Ghana’s mining sector. Other influencing indicators, including safety knowledge, safety culture, and transformational leadership, were considered in the research model. The study employed the structural equation model to evaluate the research hypothesis. Data was gathered over 4 months from 550 mining workers in Ghana. The study’s findings revealed that OHSP significantly predicts employee safety culture, safety knowledge, and safety behavior. Additionally, the study discovered that safety knowledge and culture play critical roles in mediating the relationship between OHSP and safety behavior. At the same time, transformational leadership moderated the nexus between OHSP and safety behavior, demonstrating its vital role in enhancing the implementation and effectiveness of safety practices. These findings present a novel perspective yet hold significant implications and theoretical progress on improving OHSP in Ghana’s mining sector.
