<p>This article examines the effects of fiscal decentralisation on industrialisation. Although the theory of fiscal decentralisation is well established, there is a gap in the literature regarding empirical studies on its effect on industrialisation in the African context. This article aims to fill this gap by analysing the sample of 13 African countries observed between 2002 and 2017. To achieve this, we specify and estimate a panel data model using the pooled ordinary least squares (OLS) method and Lewbel’s double least squares (2SLS) instrumental variables method. The robustness of the results is proven using the quantile regression method. The results show that fiscal decentralisation has a positive and significant impact on industrialisation in Africa. Furthermore, the use of the mediation analysis approach shows that the effects of fiscal decentralisation on industrialisation are mediated by financial development, access to energy and control of corruption. We propose to intensify the implementation of fiscal decentralisation policies to effectively mobilise local resources for the financing of infrastructure projects to consolidate industrialisation strategies in Africa.</p>
