Socio-Economic Factors and Their Influence on Covid-19 Deaths in Latin America: Role of Knowledge and Its Economic Implications

Latin America has been one of the regions most affected by Covid-19. The aim of this research is to identify the demographic, economic, political, and social factors that significantly impact the number of Covid-19-related deaths in Latin America. Using factor analysis and multiple regression, the study examines the relationship between the number of fatalities and key demographic and socioeconomic variables. The findings highlight that factors such as life expectancy, population density, poverty levels, vulnerable employment, basic sanitation, the Human Development Index, and gross domestic product per capita are significantly linked to Covid-19 mortality rates. These structural variables, deeply embedded in the region’s socioeconomic framework, play a crucial role in determining the impact of the pandemic. Based on the results, policy recommendations are offered. By implementing long-term economic recovery measures and appropriately reallocating resources and expenditures, Latin American society will be better equipped to withstand future outbreaks of disease or emergency situations.
