Challenges in Music Education in Chinese Colleges and Universities

This article explores the challenges faced by Chinese colleges and universities in teaching music. Findings reveal that issues such as inadequate infrastructure, limited resources, and insufficient tools for practical skill development hinder effective music instruction. Teachers and students encounter difficulties due to the lack of dedicated music rooms and the need to carry instruments to different classrooms. Music educators lacking proper pedagogical training also face challenges in student engagement and managing disruptive behavior. Assessment operations and the pressure to avoid failure pose additional obstacles, requiring the determination of assessment criteria and addressing student and parental reactions. School management and administrative support are crucial for creating a supportive environment for music education. Negative perceptions, lack of support, and limited extracurricular activities contribute to low satisfaction among music teachers. The study highlights the importance of increased investment in infrastructure, resources, and training programs to enhance the quality of music education. Adequate funding for facilities, instruments, training initiatives, and administrative support is necessary to overcome these challenges and foster an enriching learning environment for both students and music educators.
