Digitale Physiotherapie bei axialer Spondyloarthritis
摘要
The Austrian Ankylosing Spondylitis Association (ÖVMB) launched the AXIA research project together with Applimeda in 2024 to advance digital physiotherapy for people with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). All ÖVMB members receive exclusive access to the Axia Bechterew app, a CE-certified medical device that combines evidence-based exercise therapy, disease management, and knowledge transfer. With over 580 app installations since March 2024 highlights the strong demand. Axia supports users with daily, individually adapted exercises, over 250 instructional videos, relaxation techniques, and a digital companion named “Bechto,” who motivates and provides feedback. The app adjusts exercises to each user’s personal fitness level and additionally offers immediate help for acute spinal pain, external activity tracking, reminder systems, and a comprehensive knowledge library on axial spondyloarthritis. The goal is to sustainably integrate movement into daily life and improve disease literacy. A major study conducted as part of the German DiGA (“digitale Gesundheitsanwendung”) approval process shows highly significant improvements in disease activity, functional ability, and quality of life among Axia users. An Austrian user survey with 70 members also confirms substantial progress in pain reduction and mobility between winter and summer 2025. Since not all patients have access to physiotherapy groups, the ÖVMB sees Axia as essential, enabling low-threshold, motivating daily exercise therapy that sustainably improves the quality of life of people with axial spondyloarthritis. The ÖVMB goes further: It drives innovation and gives its members early access to a digital health solution in Austria.
