Synthesis, Characterization, Antimicrobial, and Antibiofilm Potential of Novel CuWO4 and Ag-CuWO4 NPs: Reaction Mechanism Determination
摘要
In this work, CuWO4 nanoparticles (NPs) and Ag NPs coated on CuWO4 (Ag-CuWO4) NPs were prepared. The synthesized CuWO4 and Ag-CuWO4 NPs were tested as antimicrobial agents against some selected pathogenic microbes. XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDX measurements were used to characterize the synthesized Ag-CuWO4 NPs. Additionally, the TEM image confirmed that Ag-CuWO4 has particles in the nanoscale range. According to our results, Ag-coated CuWO4 NPs showed the highest antibacterial efficacy against Bacillus subtilis (25.0 mm ZOI), Klebsiella pneumoniae (19.0 mm ZOI), Candida tropicalis (18.30 mm ZOI), and Staphylococcus aureus (17.30 mm ZOI). The growth of biofilms was also successfully inhibited by applying Ag-CuWO4 NPs by 94.59% against Staphylococcus aureus, 93.73% against Escherichia coli, and 80.92% against Candida albicans. The promising results suggested the encouraging usage of the formed nano-formula against the pathogenic microbes as a new era for competing the resistance of some pathogens in the biomedical fields.
