Oral Administration of Ginseng Extracellular Vesicle-Loaded Sodium Alginate Hydrogel for Modulating Macrophage-Mediated Inflammation in Ulcerative Colitis

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from ginseng have significant anti-inflammatory properties, making them promising drugs for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the clinical application of ginseng origin electric vehicles has been hindered due to the lack of an effective oral drug delivery system. Sodium alginate hydrogel has excellent oral administration ability, biocompatibility, and the ability to protect bioactive compounds through the gastrointestinal tract, making it a feasible solution. This study proposes to develop a sodium alginate hydrogel system to encapsulate ginseng-derived EVs, in order to improve their stability and therapeutic effect on UC. The hydrogel system is designed to promote the targeted delivery and continuous release of ginseng EVs in the colon, thereby maximizing their anti-inflammatory effects and providing a new non-invasive treatment option for UC. This innovative approach has the potential to overcome current delivery challenges and significantly improve the clinical management of ulcerative colitis.
