Tensile and Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior of Inconel-625 Weld Joint at 570 °C

In this study, the tensile and low-cycle fatigue (LCF) responses of Inconel-625 butt-weld joint with Inconel-625 filler wire is discussed. Tensile testing of the base metal, all-weld and weld joint (cross-weld) specimens at 570 °C showed that the tensile strength and ductility of all-weld and the weld joint specimens were found to be lower than those of the base metal. The hardness of the weld metal is marginally higher than that of the base metal and weld-interface. LCF tests of the weld joint specimens showed that the LCF life of the cross-weld specimens was lower than that of the base metal. Fractographic examination of weld joint under tensile loading showed typical ductile fracture with dimples and the LCF specimens showed striations during stage-II fatigue crack propagation and crack initiating sites. Numerical prediction of the tensile response of weld joint specimen showed a close agreement with the experimental results.
