In-Press Heating and Forming of Uncoated 22MnB5 Steel for High-Strength Automotive Applications
摘要
Hot stamped ultra-high strength steel (UHSS) parts are being produced from 22MnB5 boron steel, mostly coated, to avoid oxidation during heating and soaking at 900 °C. But it has limitation with respect to productivity. Therefore, to prevent oxide scale formation during heating of uncoated boron steel, new innovative hot stamping process under controlled atmosphere is proposed in this study. Hot stamping experiments were conducted with both conventional and new innovative hot stamping method. Post-form investigations revealed that newly proposed innovative method can achieve required UHSS properties and reduced oxide scale. The proposed new hot stamping method reduces the process cycle time from ~ 200 s to ~ 25 s, thus increases overall productivity. From the experimental investigations it is concluded that proposed new innovative hot stamping process is potential oxide free solution for hot stamping of uncoated 22MnB5 boron steel.
