摘要

This study examines magnesium (Mg)-based functional materials produced using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coating and field-assisted sintering technology (FAST). While Mg’s low density and biocompatibility make it ideal for biomedical implants, its poor corrosion resistance and formability are significant challenges. Mg powders were mechanically milled with 10% PVA for 30 min (Mg30PVA10), with some samples treated to remove PVA (Mga). Double-layer functional materials (FMs) were produced using FAST. PVA coating improved sintering, achieving 99% density and 195 MPa compressive strength. PVA free samples (Mga) showed the highest strength of 215 MPa. FM samples exhibited smooth interfaces. In vitro corrosion tests revealed lower resistance in PVA-coated samples. Cytotoxicity tests confirmed that FM samples were non-toxic to L929 cells. In conclusion, PVA coating and FAST effectively enhance the microstructure, mechanical properties and biocompatibility of Mg-based materials, offering promise for biomedical applications.
