摘要

One significant class of luminescent materials that can produce white light is rare earth (RE)-doped phosphors. These phosphors are essential to the creation of the next generation of lighting sources. A great deal of research has gone into creating phosphors with high luminescence efficiency, extended life spans, compact designs, and little environmental impact. The kind of dopants added has a significant impact on the luminescence efficiency. RE dopants that are frequently employed include Ce3+, Tb3+, Eu3+/Eu2+, Gd3+, Dy3+, Sm3+, Tm3+, Er3+, Yb3+, and Nd3+. The luminous materials activated by the RE3+ ion exhibit remarkable photo stabilities, extended luminescence lifetimes, and narrow emission lines of luminosity. In addition to reviewing the synthesis and characterization of rare earth luminous materials, this paper also emphasized the luminescence mechanism. Applications of rare earth luminescent materials span across various fields, including optoelectronics, display technologies, biomedical imaging, and sensing. Specific examples of their use in light-emitting diodes are highlighted.
