摘要

In this research, in order to modify the morphology of the eutectic phase of silicon in the Al–3.5 wt%Si alloy, homogenization heat treatment and subsequent aging were performed on the cast samples, and the effect of this process on the electrical conductivity was investigated. The as-cast samples were homogenized for 3 h at 500 °C and followed by water quenching and then aged at 200 °C for 1, 3, and 5 h. Optical microscope was used to investigate the grain structure, and scanning electron microscope was used to study the morphology of Si phases. In order to investigate the mechanical properties of samples after heat treatment the hardness test was done. The electrical conductivity test was performed with the four-point probe method. The results showed that in the as-cast samples, Si existed as relatively continuous phase in the boundaries with a morphology of plate/fishbone. After heat treatment, the morphology of silicon eutectic phases was transformed into worm/ellipsoidal shape. Due to some porosity created during heat treatment, electrical conductivity decreased. Also, during aging, silicon atoms were removed from the Al matrix, which led to a decrease in the hardness of the samples.
