Experimental Research on the Wear Properties of Friction Stir Welded Al–Li/Al–Mg Improved Heterogeneous Material Joints

Friction stir welding (FSW) was used to combine high- and low-strength aluminum alloys. A Box–Behnken design matrix was created utilizing a material thickness of 6 mm, AA 8090-T6511, and AA 5754-H32, along with a total of four kinds of parameters, to make the fewest possible welds using the MINITAB 17 optimization tool. The mechanical characteristics of the different aluminum welded specimens in relation to their parent materials were examined. In this study, an experimental connection between the ultimate tensile strength and rate of wear was developed in order to forecast the rate of wear of FSW heterogeneous aluminum alloys and compare it to the wear rates of the parent metals. The tests used a running distance of 500 mm, a rotating frequency of 40 ± 1 rpm, and applied forces of 10, 15, and 20 N to get the findings. Hardness on the weld nugget zone inversely affects the wear rate of the friction stir welded sample and parent alloys, as does the total consequence of the deterioration examination with all applied stresses.
