Long-Term Retained Craniofacial Knife Blade: Surgical Removal After 5 Years - A Case Report
摘要
Background
Penetrating foreign bodies (FBs) in the head and neck, poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic concerns, due to compact critical intracranial neurovascular structures.
ObjectiveTo describe the surgical removal of a rare cranio-maxillary FB.
MethodsA 38-year-old man presented with a 5-year history of a retained cranial knife blade following a mid-facial stab injury.
ResultAssessment confirmed a retained cranial FB with minimal mass effect, which was removed through coordinated maxillo-facial-anaesthetic management, without complications.
ConclusionThis report demonstrates that a prolonged retained cranial knife blade can be successfully removed even in a low-resource setting.
