摘要

Background

Penetrating foreign bodies (FBs) in the head and neck, poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic concerns, due to compact critical intracranial neurovascular structures.

Objective

To describe the surgical removal of a rare cranio-maxillary FB.

Methods

A 38-year-old man presented with a 5-year history of a retained cranial knife blade following a mid-facial stab injury.

Result

Assessment confirmed a retained cranial FB with minimal mass effect, which was removed through coordinated maxillo-facial-anaesthetic management, without complications.

Conclusion

This report demonstrates that a prolonged retained cranial knife blade can be successfully removed even in a low-resource setting.
