Radiological Insights on a Giant Follicular Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor: A Case Report with Radiological Correlation

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is a rare, benign epithelial odontogenic neoplasm, accounting for approximately 3% of all odontogenic tumors. It primarily affects adolescent females and most commonly found in the anterior maxilla, often in association with an unerupted canine. We describe a case of an abnormally large AOT and highlight its imaging characteristics on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT). A careful differential diagnosis was required because the lesion’s radiographic appearance was similar to that of other odontogenic cysts and tumors. Important imaging features, such as the presence of internal calcifications and encapsulation, were crucial for making a definitive diagnosis. This case discusses the importance of advanced imaging in guiding surgical management and highlights its diagnostic value in differentiating AOT from other lesions. A brief review of the literature is also presented to put this case in perspective within the larger clinical picture of AOT presentations.
