An Osteoma in the Sigmoid Notch of the Mandible in a Patient with Gardner Syndrome: A Case Rreport
摘要
Osteoma is a benign tumor that is characterized by the proliferation of spongy or compact bone and is mostly formed in the face or skull. Osteomas often manifest as isolated asymmetry or deformity and have no symptoms. Gardner syndrome (GS) is identified by multiple osteomas of the jaw and multiple premalignant colorectal adenomas which potentially can progress to colorectal carcinoma.
Case presentationThis case report describes a case of osteoma in a 21-year-old Iranian female with GS and the history of prophylactic right hemicolectomy due to the presence of a polyp. This paper summarized the pathological findings, radiographical features and clinical management of the patient. Radiographies revealed an expansile mixed radiolucent and radiopaque lesion with well-defined borders in the lingual side of the right ramus that originated from the sigmoid notch and extended to the condylar neck.
ConclusionA conservative surgical approach is used to remove the lesion. Microscopic examination revealed mature bone tissue. The surgery was uneventful, and the case report outlines the successful outcomes of the surgical approach.
