Background <p>Inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) injury may occur during sagittal or vertical ramus osteotomies, placement of distractors and open reduction and internal fixation of ramus or sub condylar fractures.</p> Method <p>The technical note describes the effective use of a computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing(CAD/CAM) splint in preventing IAN injury during fixation of ramus fracture.</p> Conclusion <p>The advantages of the splint include precise reduction and fixation of fracture without injuring the IAN and reduction in surgical time.</p>

Background

Inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) injury may occur during sagittal or vertical ramus osteotomies, placement of distractors and open reduction and internal fixation of ramus or sub condylar fractures.

Method

The technical note describes the effective use of a computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing(CAD/CAM) splint in preventing IAN injury during fixation of ramus fracture.

Conclusion

The advantages of the splint include precise reduction and fixation of fracture without injuring the IAN and reduction in surgical time.
