Splint Guided Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Mandibular Ramus Fracture to Prevent Inferior Alveolar Nerve Injury
摘要
Background
Inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) injury may occur during sagittal or vertical ramus osteotomies, placement of distractors and open reduction and internal fixation of ramus or sub condylar fractures.
MethodThe technical note describes the effective use of a computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing(CAD/CAM) splint in preventing IAN injury during fixation of ramus fracture.
ConclusionThe advantages of the splint include precise reduction and fixation of fracture without injuring the IAN and reduction in surgical time.
