Insights into Adjunctive Use of Nasal Conformers as Prosthetic Support in Post-Traumatic Nasal Injury: A Comprehensive Review
摘要
In maxillofacial surgery, nasal alar lacerations invite an exceptional challenge because of the delicate nature of the alartissue and the critical role it plays in maintaining nasal function and aesthetics. Maintaining the nasal shape and airway patencyrequires achieving the best possible healing and avoiding scar contracture in the nasal alar region. Nasal conformers are specializeddevices designed to maintain or restore the anatomic contours of the nose following trauma, surgery, or congenital deformities. Theyplay an essential role in the rehabilitation of nasal structure, particularly in cases where natural healing might lead to tissuecontraction, adhesions, or deformities. This review provides an overview of nasal anatomy, use of nasal conformers in the postoperativemanagement of alar lacerations, commonly used materials for conformers with their role in preventing nasal deformityensuring aesthetically pleasing outcome. Nasal conformers play an essential role in maintaining shape preventing collapse ofthe anterior nares. Nasal conformers are anti-snoring devices used for dilatation of the nostril, the study illustrates theuse of nasal conformers post-laceration closure of ala of the nose for preventing the constriction of the nostril.
