Enticing Carotid Twirls: Accepting Different Perspectives
摘要
Surgical management is the primary treatment for early-stage head and neck cancers and select advanced cases, often supplemented with radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. Given the older age and comorbidities of many patients, understanding the carotid anatomical variations (e.g., loops, kinks, etc.) is critical to avoid surgical complications.
Methods and ResultsWe have performed a review of the carotid vessel anatomical variations (loops, twirls and kinks) available so far in the literature in English language and compiled their implications on the patient and how to manage them.
ConclusionWith this article, we would like to provide the readers with a concise information on how to manage patients with carotid loops and kinks in terms of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care.
